Frequently asked questions

Below you’ll find answers to questions I receive regularly. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Feel free to get in touch. I’m happy to help.

About the products

Are the products truly handmade?

Yes, every Hupacha product is personally designed, crafted and finished by me in my own studio. From the first sketch to the final coat of natural hardwax oil, everything passes through my hands. That’s what makes each piece truly one of a kind.

What wood do you use?

I work exclusively with sustainably harvested wood that has been grown as locally as possible, keeping transport to an absolute minimum. You’ll never find me working with wood sourced from outside Europe.

My primary material is solid European oak. Oak is known for its warm character, beautiful grain and exceptional durability. I also choose oak because it’s a native species, growing in abundance across the Netherlands and Europe. There’s something deeply satisfying about knowing you could step outside and see the very tree your piece came from. The short distances involved also make it a more sustainable choice. I’m proud to say my oak is fully traceable, sourced from Germany and France — two countries with strong forest management practices, including replanting requirements, ecosystem protection and strict laws against illegal logging.

The spruce I use carries the FSC certification and comes from within Europe, from countries such as Sweden, Germany, Belgium and the Baltic states.

Alongside new wood, I also work with reclaimed materials in my upcycling projects.

Why does each product look slightly different?

That’s the beauty of natural materials and handcraft. No two pieces of wood are the same; the grain, colour tones and texture are always unique. And because I work each piece by hand, subtle variations naturally arise. These aren’t flaws — they’re the qualities that make your piece genuinely one of a kind.

Do you have specific preferences? Let me know and I’ll tailor the product to your wishes.

What finish do you use?

All my products are finished with a high-quality natural hardwax oil. This eco-friendly, non-toxic finish penetrates deep into the wood, beautifully enhancing its natural warmth and character. It protects from the inside out, making the surface more resistant to moisture and dirt. The hardwax oil is so safe it’s actually food-grade — the same finish used on wooden cutting boards.

Do keep in mind that this finish is not suitable for outdoor use. For the longest lifespan, I recommend keeping the product in an environment with a relative humidity between 35% and 60% RH.

What kind of lighting do you use?

All lighting is LED — the most energy-efficient option, which is good for both your electricity bill and the environment. All LED lighting is dimmable, whether using the dimmers I offer or standard LED dimmers, unless stated otherwise on the product page. Sometimes a dimmer is included; other times it can be added to your order. Check the product page for specific details about the included lighting and dimming options. Have a particular preference? Just let me know.

Can I use the lighting and art objects outdoors?

No, all Hupacha products are designed exclusively for indoor use. The hardwax oil finish offers excellent protection in an indoor environment, but is not suited to exposure to the elements, moisture or the temperature fluctuations found outdoors. Using the product outside will affect the warranty.

How do I care for my Hupacha product?

Dust regularly with a dry cloth. Avoid harsh cleaning products or water. For the best longevity, keep the product in an indoor environment with a humidity level between 35% and 60% RH. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight or near a heat source. For lighting pieces: always switch off the power before cleaning.

Ordering and payment

How do I place an order?

Select the product you’d like in the shop, add it to your cart and follow the steps at checkout. You’ll receive an order confirmation by email straight away. After that, I’ll get to work for you.

What payment methods do you accept?

You can pay safely and easily via iDEAL (Netherlands), Bancontact (Belgium) or direct bank transfer. All online payments are processed through Mollie’s secure payment environment. See payment options for more information.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Because I make every product by hand, I often begin production shortly after receiving your order. If you’d like to make a change or cancel, please get in touch as soon as possible and I’ll see what’s still possible.

Will I receive an invoice?

Yes, every order automatically comes with an invoice sent by email. It includes all legally required information, including VAT. Do you have specific invoicing needs, for instance for a business purchase? Just let me know when placing your order.

Shipping and delivery

What are the shipping costs?

Shipping costs are calculated based on the size and weight of your order and your delivery address. You’ll see the exact shipping costs in your cart before you check out. More details can be found on the shipping information page.

How long does delivery take?

Some products I keep in limited stock. Others are partly prepared, and some are only made once an order comes in. Either way, I get started as soon as your order arrives. Allow a few working days for production (depending on the product and current workload), plus 1-2 days for shipping. The expected dispatch date is shown on each product page.

You’ll also find the estimated delivery time on each product page. Once your order is ready and on its way, you’ll receive a track & trace code so you can follow the delivery. For full details, see shipping information.

Do you ship outside the Netherlands?

Yes, I also ship to Belgium, Germany and other countries within the European Union. Shipping costs and delivery times may vary by country. Please contact me for a quote if your country isn’t shown in the shop.

What if my package arrives damaged?

Always check your package as soon as it arrives. If you notice any damage to the packaging or the product, take photos and get in touch with me as soon as possible. We’ll work together to find the best solution.

Returns and warranty

Can I return a product?

For online purchases, you have a legal right of withdrawal of 14 days. Within this period you may return the product without giving a reason, provided it is in its original condition. Custom-made products are excluded from returns. Please read all the terms on the returns page.

How does the warranty work?

As a consumer, you are entitled to a product that is free from defects. Should your product unexpectedly show a fault, we’ll work together to find an appropriate solution. The warranty covers defects in the construction, metal components, electrical connections and the finish. These are the elements I have full control over as a maker, and that I stand behind with pride. Third-party components such as LED parts are of course also covered. You can make a claim for up to 24 months. All the details can be found on the warranty page.

What if I’m not satisfied?

Your satisfaction comes first. If you have a complaint or something isn’t right, please let me know. I take every concern seriously and I’m always happy to work with you toward a solution. Read more about the process on the complaints page.

Custom work

Do you offer custom work?

Yes, custom work is an important part of what I do. Whether you need a specific size, a particular finish, or have a completely original design in mind, I’m happy to think it through with you. Read more about the possibilities on the custom work page.

How much does a custom project cost?

The price of a custom piece depends on the design, dimensions, complexity and materials involved. After a no-obligation conversation, you’ll receive a tailored quote so you know exactly what to expect. No surprises afterwards.

How long does a custom project take?

Lead times vary from project to project, typically ranging from one to several weeks. This depends on the complexity of the design and how busy my studio is at the time. When I send your quote, I’ll include a realistic estimate of the delivery time.

Can I return a custom-made product?

Because custom products are made specifically for you to your own specifications, they fall outside the right of withdrawal and cannot be returned. That’s exactly why I make sure we go through everything carefully in advance, and stay in touch during production, so the end result is precisely what you had in mind.

About Hupacha

What does the name Hupacha mean?

Hupacha is made up of two elements: ‘Hup’, my family name, and ‘Pacha’, a word from the Quechua language of the Andes meaning ‘world’ or ‘cosmos’. Together, Hupacha means: ‘The world of Hup’ — a creative universe in which I bring my inner vision to life. Read more on the about Hupacha page.

Where is Hupacha based?

My studio is located in the quiet town of Dieren (Gelderland), right alongside the vast forests of the Veluwezoom. An inspiring setting where every product is made by hand. The studio is not open for visits, but I’m always available for contact by email or phone, and I’m happy to arrange meetings on location.

How can I stay up to date with new products?

Sign up for the newsletter at the bottom of the website. You’ll be the first to hear about new creations, the story behind my work and exclusive offers. Your details are never shared with third parties and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Why does every product review show “Verified owner”?

Honest, trustworthy reviews matter to me. That’s why I only ask customers who have actually purchased a product from me to share their experience.

How do you handle my personal data?

Your privacy matters. I only collect the information that’s necessary to process your order or answer your question. Your data is never sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes. Read the full privacy policy for all the details.
